My course goals

Week One Task:

Post to your blog what you hope to get out of this course. Include any concerns or questions you may have.”

Over the past couple of years, I have learned a lot about teaching and facilitating interaction online both though professional development courses at my previous employer, and through online communities of practice, such as Learning with Computers.

Earlier this year, I was part of the moderating team for Blogging for Educators. This was by far the biggest facilitator role that I had been involved in, and I realized that while I felt comfortable interacting with the participants throught our Yahoo group, blog comments, Twitter, etc., I didn’t feel I was prepared to moderate a live event with the group. We used various tools, such as Skype and Wiziq for these events.

Therefore, my main goal for this course is to become more comfortable participating in and facilitating synchronous online events. Since I already have a plan to facilitate some events for the online communities of practice later this year, I hope to be able to put what I’m learning in this course into practice! Other goals for this course include learning more about facilitating, encouraging active participation in online groups, and of course - meeting other enthusiastic educators! I’m really looking forward to this great opportunity :)
